Art in a Jar

Pinterest is where I get many ideas, where I go for inspiration. It’s where I first spotted Chloe Remiat’s adorable figures in jars. Her paper characters are so expressive and fun and best of all, in their jars, can be kept dust free!

This was also about the time I had some candle jars that had probably a quarter of an inch of wax left in them. As usual, I had them stashed in a box for just-in-case. I’d seen videos of how people cleaned them out to use as cotton ball holders and such. Imagine them in a neat row on the bathroom shelf filled with cotton balls. And such.

Never happened.

Zip forward to my finding those Chloe art dolls in jars. I just had to try it for myself and I already had the jars. I grabbed the jars I had, stuck them in the freezer, got the leftover wax out, washed and cleaned out the soot. The jars clean up really well, by the way.

I filled up the jars with all sorts of stories that allowed me to use elements from my paper stash. I stopped only because I ran out of jars. In the meantime, I started learning all I could about using polymer clay. This led to taking an online class with Tatiana Malushkina—a Russian doll artist I’d been following on Instagram.

More about that later on because this post is about the jars. I had donated one that I’d finished to the St. Mary’s 2019 Christmas Fair. I also made  another one for a friend before I ran out of jars. Before I knew it, I was being asked if I’d be interested in taking used candle jars!

Sometimes gifts just fall onto your lap and the last thing you want to do is to stand up! No, you sit there and gather all of those gifts into your virtual giant apron and you say thank you.

I'm ending this post with more photos. Most of them are already in their new homes but these last three will soon be posted for sale.
